Alrighty Everyone,
This is the big news. Everything since March 13 has been optional. But as of this week, you can submit work for marks between now and June 23 and have it affect your final grade in the course. Check your report card on the portal if you don't remember your summative mark or average of the two terms.
Your final marks will be determined as follows, Term 1 and 2 plus anything for term 3 submitted before March 13 (Your Patchwork Poem, Oral with Meme, and both 2-minute talks) and my professional judgment based on which of these 4 categories your fall into:
Everyone in number 1, and your parents, will get a separate email to reply to with your responsibilities.
Everyone else (numbers 2, 3, or 4) MUST REPLY to this message stating which option you choose (2, 3, or 4) by THIS SATURDAY May 16. Email is the primary means of communication for this course. Please do not make me call your home again, because you can't bother to be respectful enough (of me, of my time, of my money, of my course, and of your own learning, success, and professionalism) to reply to a simple message.
If you want to participate but can't because of access to technology or wifi, please let me know as the Minister has a program to address this. (Loan of laptops with built-in internet).

REPLY by THIS SATURDAY May 16.
Your replies will help me focus my zoom meetings / online classes and know how many students I'm dealing with. It will also help me prepare the online classes, timeline for work and evaluation, and the final marks for the rest of you under number 2.
You will all of course continue to get weekly updates, as we move toward the end of the year.
Please notice the changes to the website. You have 'office hours' or how to get in touch with me on the home page, the Co-Vid Blog is now its own tab at the top, and the grade 11 page now has the two academic tracks reflected (for numbers 1 and 3 above). Of course if you're a number 3, you can customize your projects.
If you're in the Creative Writing option, I still have your flash fiction to grade which will count towards term 3 and factor in to your final mark. If you are failing the class PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN YOUR REPLY, if you are willing to do work to pass, and I will design something for you. Even though the focus now is on essential core courses, for some of you an option course pass or fail will make a difference regarding total number of credits needed to graduate. Please check your transcript (report card) online to check.
REMEMBER:Graduation and prom are postponed. This is important. Postponed. Many schools are cancelling, but NOT CVR. We love and miss and value this graduating class, and we will move heaven and earth to properly celebrate you, your achievements over the last five years, and your contribution to school life (and say a proper goodbye). It literally sucks that this is the way your senior year has ended, and we feel that loss too. Trust me when I say several teachers are already working on ideas for a party or parties to honour you: this truly exceptional class of wonderful young people.
If you have any creative ideas for this celebration please share them with me.

Your final marks will be determined as follows, Term 1 and 2 plus anything for term 3 submitted before March 13 (Your Patchwork Poem, Oral with Meme, and both 2-minute talks) and my professional judgment based on which of these 4 categories your fall into:
- You are failing. The plan is clear for 3 projects for you to do on the grade 11 site Track 1. There are no extensions. Deadlines are fixed. You also MUST attend the weekly Zoom meetings. You have to show you are serious about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in a once-in-a-lifetime situation. You need this class to graduate, and without a summer supplemental exam you're looking at January 2021 as the earliest you can take the final exam and see if you pass the course. Moral of the story: DO IT NOW. The work you produce must be secondary V level and meet the criteria and expectations of the course and the project assigned. The work you do now, as part of term 3, carries more weight than terms 1 and 2, and my professional judgment will determine your final grade based on all these factors. If you can demonstrate competency on these projects, you can pass. However, there is no opting out. Failure to meet all the guidelines reverts to the mark in term 1 and 2.
- You are passing everything and you're happy with your marks so far. All your work from now on is optional. You've already proved you can pass this class. I will use your marks to date to create a term 3 mark, and your overall final mark will look a lot like your summative average of Terms 1 and 2. You have nothing left to do. Congratulations.
- You are passing everything BUT you'd like to improve your mark, prepare for college, or just stay sharp / be less bored. Again, optional, but counts for grades. You will be able to follow either track on the website and decide what projects you'd like to do (maybe you can even design something yourself, or use something you did from the Co-Vid blog). I will follow number 2 in terms of calculating your final marks, but I will factor in the work you do now for term 3 to hopefully better your overall grade in the course.
- You are passing everything but you'd like to stay engaged, and not do anything that counts for marks, just stay sharp / be less bored. Again, optional. This would be a weekly Zoom class, like last week's, with a specific text to read, discuss, and writing exercise to do and share. And this group can decide what it would like to study, or leave it up to me. Pandemic free was the only goal for last week's class. I will let you know the topics and give you the text(s) in advance like last time, and you can opt in or out up to the level of engagement you feel like. Up to you. Your final mark will be calculated as under number 2. Congratulations.
