In talking about my first post with Hardy and Beaudin, we started reminiscing and talking music that shaped us growing up. So then a) I felt like crap about my first playlist, not because it's not good, but because there's SO much music out there, and so many memories and experiences connected to it (especially growing up), that I shouldn't just limit my musical life to recent times. So b) I felt I should delve into my youth a bit and share a few keystones, AKA make another playlist! Maybe you know these bands and albums, maybe not so much. As a child of the 80s, there's a lot of music that brings back memories. I'm more of a radio listener than a collector. So if I chose to buy an album, it meant a lot to me. Thus, I narrowed down my list by putting here only albums I actually owned. Many on vinyl. They're gone now, replaced by cassette or CD in some cases. But I hope you enjoy, and maybe even get inspired to go down your own musical memory lane and see what pops up, what rock you can un-turn, what country you can explore... Puns intended. Ha. Again excuse some of the sound quality, but it gives you an idea.
1980. My very first concert. Grade 7, baby. To this day "You Shook Me All Night Long" is my number one request, and I gots to dance and scream my lungs out. Once brought my vinyl copy of Highway to Hell to a dance for the DJ to play, and never got it back. AARGH!!! | 1980. "Take it on the Run" and "Keep on Loving You" - God help you if you're in the car with me when these come on. It's belt-a-palooza! Along with Air Supply I think these were the cheesy pop acts of the day. I've never been that cool. I own it. Love these guys! | 1981."Urgent", "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and many others. A classic album. Several songs made it on a mixed tape that I used to play on loop on long road trips. Somehow you always go back to the feel good tunes of your youth. |
| 1991. Like I said. I've never been cool. But If Eddie Vedder wasn't the hottest thing going (and still is), then I don't know from crushes on musicians. What a voice. The power on this album and the new sort of stream-of-consciousness lyrical style is cool and additive. |
| 1993. So sad that she's dead. You probably know "Zombie" from remakes. This is the first album - I'm sure I bought it because "Linger" was on a show like Dawson's Creek or something I loved at the time. |
