Writer's Journal
All exercises must be completed. If you miss class you're responsible for having your journal up to date

Piece #2 - Poem in your choice of type and form reviewed in class (assignment checklist here)
  • Minimum # of lines must follow the prescribed form - if ballad minimum is 16 lines, if free verse minimum is 30 lines

  • Sauve's rough copy with labelled techniques - feedback was mostly positive except for 'drumbeat' and no title

​Oct. 24 - decide on a form and shape a good copy
Oct. 29 - peer- and self- review and revise
Nov. 1 - finalize and submit. GC is due this period
Submit as follows: GC on top, rough copy peer- and self- reviewed, AND annotated (list and label all the form rules you followed AND as many techniques as you tried to use); all 5 draft poems in the 5 poetic forms tried (ballad, sonnet, roundel, villanelle, free verse); all 5 poetic type freewrites (ode, elegy, apostrophe, confessional, allegory), the checklist goes last filled out properly.

Nov. 1 is the last day of the term. It is the last day to hand both projects for this term. No late marks are deducted in this option class.

Piece #1 - Writer's Choice (assignment checklist here)
  • Sauvé's first full draft with self-editing as to flow, content, and sense - ie filling in the gaps
  • Sauvé's second draft with evidence of peer- and self- review
  • Sauvé's revised third draft with round 2 peer- and self- review, plus a third (Bussey)
  • Sauvé's final copy and copy with highlighted techniques
Sept. 20 (day 5) - Choose from all the journal entries and shape a full draft - look for gaps and consistency in story, character, flow, and POV
Sept. 24 (day 7) - Rough draft #1 for peer- and self-review and revision in class based on content, flow, sense, tone (line breaks, development, adding depth and detail)
Sept. 26 (day 9) -
Rough draft #2 for peer- and self-review and revision in class, including titling your work (focus on literary techniques, figurative language, flair, voice)

DUE: Tues. Oct. 1 (day 3) - GC is due this period
Submit as follows: GC on top, all related rough drafts (min 2), evidence of self- and peer- review over 2 cycles, and evidence of revision based of the feedback - self and other - from both rounds (including completed feedback sheet and checklist goes last, properly filled out).
